the Lawn” Program to go Inside as “Lunch on the Carpet” Program

Parents and Children of All Ages

ENGLEWOOD, July 27,
2000- Rain forced the Englewood Public Library yesterday to shift its annual
“Lunch on the Lawn” Program inside to “Lunch on the Carpet” Program in
the newly-renovated Mackay Room. The
“Lunch on the Lawn” Program is usually held on the library’s front lawn.
Inclement weather notwithstanding, multi-talented entertainer Nicole M.
D’Angelo of East Hanover and Belmar attracted a near capacity crowd of
approximately 60 parents and children of all ages.
Ms. D’Angelo, who is
well-known at the Jersey Shore, entertained youngsters with lots of good music
and audience participation. Children
brought lunch. Since the program
was held indoors, they didn’t need blankets.
Beverages were provided by the Children’s Room.
In addition to singing, Ms.
D’Angelo’s musical talent on the instruments she plays has been cited by
newspapers and reviewers. Her range
of musical instruments is enhanced by having personally recorded complete
orchestral or backup music onto floppy disks which play in her keyboard.
By playing the guitar, harmonica and keyboard during her performance,
with the added backup music, she sounds like a complete musical group, whether a
three-piece combo or a full symphonic orchestra.
One reviewer, Bob Angelone of Shore
Herald, noted: “Close your eyes when you listen to her singing. You will soon lose yourself in the moment and not know who is
actually singing. No matter if
it’s Billy Joel’s ‘Piano Man’ or Celene Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go
On,’ you will get the distinct impression that it is the original performer.
D’Angelo’s transition from piano to harmonica to guitar was amazingly
smooth. Her ability to go from
songs like ‘La Bamba’ to ‘Summertime’ was also quite extraordinary.
Ms. D’Angelo performs
regularly at Shore locales. In
addition to the July 26 program at the Englewood Public Library, she will be
performing on the following upcoming dates and places: July 28, Belmar Concert
Series; August 1, Avon Concert Series; August 8, Spring Lake Concert Series;
August 14, Howell Concert Series; and August 15, 22, and 29, Avon Concert
Series. She also performs at restaurants and hotels in Monmouth and
Ocean Counties. She specializes in
soft rock, pop, jazz, and Broadway show tunes.
Her program is called, “Music By Nicole.”
Ms. D’Angelo appeared as a
guest on “The Bill Jamison Show” on TV-34 Monmouth Cablevision.
The half-hour program was taped and aired repeatedly last October and
November. She performed, arranged,
and sequenced her own CD, which includes an array of covers and an original of
different styles of music. In
addition, she recorded with jazz bassist Rufus Reid (Tanareid Records) on his
latest CD, titled “Back to Front.”
She recently graduated Summa
Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from William
Paterson University. She was
recently hired by the Livingston Board of Education to teach K-5 General Music,
Fourth and Fifth Grade Chorus, and Gifted and Talented Music at the Collins
Elementary and Riker Hill Elementary Schools, both in Livingston, starting in
September.
Dr. Diane M. Falk, Director of
Music Education at William Paterson University, called Ms. D’Angelo an
“extremely capable student, an outstanding musician, and a fine educator who
demonstrates all the personal, academic, and musical skills necessary for
success as a music teacher.” Dr.
Falk said Ms. D’Angelo’s abilities were recognized by the faculty at William
Paterson University, when she was presented with the 1999-2000 Outstanding Music
Education Student Award.
The Englewood Public Library
is located at 31 Engle Street, Englewood.
